KEEPING YOUR EXOTIC ORCHIDS HAPPY
☀️ Light: Bright, filtered light is ideal. Gentle morning sun is lovely, but protect your Orchids from hot, burning summer sun.
🌡️ Temperature: These are warm-growing, tropical Orchids and they love warmth! Aim for temperatures around 18–30°C where possible. Once night temperatures regularly fall below 15°C, start thinking about a warmer, more protected position. Definitely protect them from temperatures approaching 10°C or below.
💧 Water: Water well during warm weather when the plants are actively growing. Allow plenty of air around the roots and never leave them sitting wet. As temperatures cool, reduce watering accordingly.
🪴 Potting: Most will enjoy a very free-draining Orchid mix, although the perfect mix will vary between varieties. Vandas and other Vandaceous Orchids particularly love lots of air around their roots.
🌿 Fertiliser: Feed with our Flower Booster twice a year, on Mother’s Day and Melbourne Cup Day. Easy dates to remember!
🌬️ Airflow: Tropical Orchids love good air movement. Give them a bright, airy position without exposing them to cold winter winds.
❄️ Cold Protection: This is the important one! Protect these Orchids from cold nights, frost and chilly winds. Whether that means a glasshouse, sunroom, protected verandah or a lovely bright position inside will depend entirely on where you live.
Watch the temperature rather than the calendar.
🌱 Repotting: Repot when necessary, preferably when you can see fresh new roots beginning to grow. Choose a pot that suits the root system rather than putting a small plant into a huge pot.
💚 A Little Tropical Love: Keep them warm, bright and protected from the cold and you’re halfway there. Once you find the spot where they’re happy, these exotic beauties are an absolute joy to grow!
